But then there was
A shaking in the ground
It knocked death off his laughing chair
But then there was
A shaking in the ground
It knocked death off his laughing chair
All of heaven rejoiced
When the veil was torn in two
All of heaven rejoiced
When the stone, was rolled away
And the King rose in victory!
I stand amidst battle cries
Armies raging all around
I cannot help, but hear the sound
Of others screaming, victory
But yet in my heart, I know the truth
I am no warrior still
I have not the heart, nor the will
To fight for that, which I know is right
So who am I?
Am I a warrior?
Or a saint?
Do I, with all my soul paint
An image for a greater purpose or
Do I simply muddy the canvas with
My broken spirit, torn by the flesh
Doing only that which I, think and feel as best.
For I am, truly broken
I am sorely lost
Given over to my fantasies
I delight, in all the wrong
Toiling under blazing sun, all the day long
For that, which is putrid
For that, which feels right
But in the end, will leave me broken and
Torn up beyond repair, far more lost than I ever planned
Truly, truly I am lost
I am no warrior still
So what purpose can I serve
What can I do?
What good or noble thing, lest it be by you?
For I am sorely lost, so sorely lost without you
So God in heaven, hear me
Hear my broken song
Help me to cry out, my soul to wholly long
From the deepest places, for You and only You, declaring
My God, my God
Fight for me!
You’ve called me to battle, but
I am no warrior, nor a saint
I cannot rhyme, nor sing
Or do anything apart from you
Oh God in heaven
I cannot fight, I can scarcely stand
Nor even look, up to your hand
I can only cry, here at your feet
My God, my God
Fight for me!
For I’ve heard, in holy places that
You, oh Lord
Fight for us and
Even make, intercession
For our broken souls.
Crying out, for mercy in
Spite of, our brokenness
Bringing justice, yet mercy the same
So please, my God, my God
Pray for me!
High Priest of heaven
You who wear, the victor’s crown
Slain, and risen Savior
Do, as only you can do
Bring life to my depravity
Bring purity, to my sinfulness
Bring fire, bring water
Bring all of you, that I might be
Wholly Yours, my God, oh God
Have mercy upon me
Please would you come
I am no warrior
I am no saint, without You, I am lost
I am not worthy to even speak your name, and yet
You know my heart the same
So great, and mighty God
Come do, as only You can do
Take these broken pieces of a life and
Fill it, with Your blood
That I may be, my own no longer
No longer sold out, to worldly pleasures but
Wholly given, wholly surrendered
Fully, in Your arms
That I may be, Yours, and only Yours, my God
Move in me I pray
Jesus, God of heaven, with all I am I’m asking
Would You come, would you move in me the same?
I know I am broken
So easily, recklessly lost
But yet your blood has made a way
For me to be made whole
Your word has promised, that I
Even one as broken as I, can come
In repentance, to Your throne of mercy and
Find rest, in You alone
In You, the great Mystery, in You who is
Even singing, over me
Jesus, I’ll rest in You alone, for it is You
You who are fighting for me
I watched, and waited
Eagerly, anticipating
The dawning, breaking light
That never was to come
In a world of darkness, with no hope
Light is, just a dream
A memory, of a past long gone
Lost in our own vanity
Now I gaze, over the cities
Waiting, for the light of day
Never to come, for we are too lost
Our fires have gone out
And I fear we will never burn again
So all is dark, for now
Only one candle remains
One small light, in a world of darkness
Begging us to hope again
And at last I see it,
A tinge of light, there
Coming on the horizon
I rise, and shout to the city
Dawn is coming!
But see, none stir
No one rises, from their slumber
They sleep, content in darkness
Not wanting to wake and see the light
Rising up before them
And now, I understand it
Why the light, has forsaken these lands
We have stopped desiring it.
We have stopped needing it.
Our necessity, for light has faded
To a contentment in the dark
So even now, as the sun rises
None wish to see
All our happy,
Safe in slumber
Dreaming of the night, and hoping
Darkness prevails
For night safer, darkness is comfortable
Light is blinding, revealing all
Men’s hearts prefer to hide their sins than
Confess and find repentance in the light
So now I see, as the sun rises
We are in need
We are in desperate need
Of fire, of a hunger
To see the light again
Darkness remains, for now
But I see the sun is rising
So for the dawn, I will wait
For the light, I will pray
And keep on walking, keep shaking
These sleeping ones, in hope they wake
To crave, to yearn once more
To see the sun again
To burn with fire once again
Now we gather, we few who hunger
Given our need by the light itself
Breaking through the blackness
We wait, we pray
For the dawn, we will yearn
For fire, we will cry
To see our homes alight again
To see our city burning bright once more
That all the darkness will flee
Every shadow, will fall
Every chain bound around us will fall
As our Savior rushes in
Riding the wings of the dawn
I know, it is not too much to hope for
I know, revival is near
So we wait, so we pray
We hunger, we cry out once more
For the dawn
For fresh fire till it comes
For need of Light, and love of day
Come burn in us again, as we wait
For the dawn
“Just a moment,
Just a moment please.”
A boy whispers, on busy street corner
To loud and toiling world around
A woman stops, for but a moment and
Wishes to say more
But with dismal glance away, she shrugs
“I’m sorry.” and keeps walking
Again, he tries another
“Just a moment sir,”
To busy man, with things to do
On way to important meeting
“I have no time.” He says in a rush
Putting up his hand as if to hush
The boy, and pleading eminating from
His kind and weary eyes
Again, another perhaps
This will be the one
A child, walking by
Holding mothers hand
“A moment,”
He asks,
Eager for reply
As child looks, and meets his eye
The two smile a second as
Time seems to stop
Eyes held, in contentment
Gazing into one another
“Come on.” Mother pulls
And yanks young girl away
Off on some busy trip
Away from boy, her friend never met
But felt there in that gaze
Then we see, after the people
Keep on passing by
The truth, of the boy
Not a boy at all
While seemingly clad, in tired rags
We see, a peculiar, mystery
The boy, the man in fact is
More than he appears
Mighty, holy
Powerful
Held in human form
Kind, gracious, compassionate
Loving, and just forever
For boy, is no boy at all
But Spirit, holy
But Creator, loving
Asking us, for but a moment
To lavish His love upon us
For us to stop, in busy days
For but a second, and to see
As girl saw, in those eyes
Something, too wonderful to describe
Yet therein, lies
A peculiar, miraculous peace
Mingled with courage, love
And jealousy
Beauty and terror alike
The boy, boy no longer but
Man, fully grown
Hands pierced with nails
Head, bearing thorns
Walking off, towards calvary
There, on the busy street corner as
None see, nor care to notice
Condemned man, as He really is
But merely scoff, and laugh or even
Do not see Him at all
For busy-ness, and focus on
All the world around Him
But this Man, keeps on walking
Whether world acknowledges Him or not
Towards His task, His Father’s will
Full of pain, and suffering and yet
Peculiar, brutal beauty
Of tale of jealousy, of love
Mingled with passion, and justice
Wrath and mercy alike
That culminated, there on that tree where
Jesus paid, the price for me
For world, and us too busy to
Even know His name
Us, too blind in sin to
Even see His face
Us, too lost in anger and rebellion to
Even care to know His name
He still died, there He hung
For us, for me
That we might go free, and be
His, and His alone
Redemption laid,
Upon a tree
Our debt paid
By Him we owed
Our futures made alive in Him
Who died, so we could live
Free, from sin and death and
Free, to live for Him
Him who is so wonderful, so beautiful
So matchless, forevermore
To Him, dead no longer but
Risen, from tomb to heaven where
He sits enthroned, on praises and
Remains, at the right hand of the Father
Praying for us,
Interceding for us
Us, the once fallen
Now given life, in His blood
Us, so loved
Us, so desired
Us, so lost without Him
He waits for us to come
To Him, and find
All we could ever need
In Him, the crucified
The Risen, Redeemer
The loving God, the jealous Lover the
Just, and passionate Judge
Both beautiful and terrible
Perfect in wrath,
And mercy alike
So good, and so wonderful
May we praise Him,
And His great name
Now and, forevermore!
Him who is so merciful and
Him who is so good!
But may we not forget
That boy, on street corner
That Man, that Savior
Who made Himself available and
Redeemed us from our sins
May we not, leave Him on the cross
Nor let Him lie, in the grave
But remember, Him the living God
Our victorious King
And too, the loving Father
Who sent His Son, to die for us
Who beckons, by His Holy Spirit, that we
Come, for but a moment and
Many more, for all eternity in fact and
Come and spend, time with Him
Him who never fails
Who loves us so, who gave Himself
Who loves us as a Father and
Who adopted us, as His own
And who too, is within us
Burning, like fire to
Give us grace, and utterance to
Worship Him, in His strength and
Pursue Him, in our weakness
To follow Him, to lead us to Him
The three in One, the everlasting
Who calls to us, out of heaven and eternity
That we come, and spend a moment
With Him, in His Word
Making ourselves available
Open, to hear His words and
Even hear Him speak
That we may be, more like Him and
Know, His love for us and
Even more than this,
There, in the secret place
So run to Him, keep Him not waiting
Run to Him, for He is enough!
Above every distraction, above every lie
A battle cry rings out
Singing of the victory
Of the risen, reigning Lord
Who already fought the battle and
Who already won it
So we on earth, need not strive
To win, thing we could never attain
But that we might simply rest,
In Him and, who He is
And praise, His victory
Praise the One, the risen Son
Who died, and rose again
Who stands
Faithful, forevermore and
Reigns on High, above it all
Victorious and true, forevermore
Matchless in all He does
In mercy and
In justice alike
May we praise His name, forevermore
In songs and testimonies of
Lives lived, for His name
Of days, and breaths taken, for His glory
To Him, who is most worthy
To Him, who is so good
To Him who is unending,
Matchless, in all His love
Merciful, and true forevermore
May we trust His name alone!
Memories of brighter days
Flicker in the night sky
Alight with wishes of the past and
Surrounded by the black of present
What beauty can there be in this
These relics of the past
So distant, so cold and yet
So surrounded by the infinite
Of eternal, distant black
A reminder, not of past but of
Future lays here in
For in that distant sky,
Burning bright with stars, we see
Hope, of tomorrow
Etched across the heavens as
He labors, above it all
Reigning, over everything
The King of Heaven, and of earth
Who knows each star by name
Therein, that sky has written in
A memorial, to His great Name
For distant stars, were formed by Him
Eternal darkness, where He walks
Each light, He knows by name and
Each figure formed by His hands
So when we look, up to the sky
Be not saddened by the past that once
Dwelled beneath these stars
Nor be troubled, for tomorrow or
Frightened for today by
Endless, mysterious black, or by
Those distant twinkles of light, that seem
To dim as days go on
Instead remember, the One who formed them and
Knows each one by name
And He who knows, that infinite blackness
And holds eternity in His hands
Take these memories, of past and
These reminders of the infinite
And see in them, the peculiar glory
Of Him, who bid them to shine and
Placed them there in, those Heavens vast
Exactly where He willed
For His purposes, for His plans, they shine
And He knows them all by name
Just as we, here on the earth
Are too made, and formed by His hands
For His plans, and purposes
May we submit, as they in Heavens do
To shine, for Him alone
And in our shining, in our obedience find
Peace, like no other as
We meet, face to face the One
Who knows each star by name
And too, knows us the same
May we revel, in His majesty
Now and forevermore
He who hung the stars, and too
Would come to us, and make a way
That He could
Know us the same
Through His Son, the eternal born of Heaven who
Died upon a tree
And rose again, in victory
To stars above(‘s) delight
To break, the bonds of hell and
Shatter powers of darkness
How marvelous is He
What a King, what a Savior
May we praise Him, forevermore
And remember Him, as we see
Those lights, hung in the Heavens
May we praise Him who holds them there
And too has redeemed us
That wonderful Savior, the everlasting God
May we praise His name forevermore!
My God we cling to You!
Upon the shores, of endless ocean we
Find remnants, of those carried by
It’s longing tides across
Vasts of endless blue
And these ones, once living,
Now empty are
Monuments, to the One
Who created them
Not to that, which once lived in them
Not to the one who inhabited that shell, that by the seas waves now
Is removed from its casing and
Left without a home
These tiny shells, of those removed are
Monuments to, Creator who
Made them beautiful
That now that they, are rid of self they
Can reflect, all the better the
Beauty of, the Creator God and
Not fear, for glorifying flesh who once
Dwelled within its casing
For that shell, has been broken
It has been tossed about and
Carried by the Sea, and now remains
As testament, to the beauty of
Eternal God in Heaven Who
Made it, so beautiful
And even rid it, of itself
That it may better, reflect Him
The One who tames the waves and
Formed the oceans vast, in all their depths and
Each and every creature within
And gave them a purpose
Like those shells, upon the beach who
Though empty, now declare a
Peculiar glory, of the God
Who rid them, of themselves and
Freed them from fleshy impulses
And temptation, to glory self
That they now, may declare to passer-byers of
The mercy, and Love of this God
Who saw them, in their states of self and
Freed them, to be His
Made them, to be His own
To glorify, His name alone
Those shells on beach do sing
In simplicity, of brokenness and
Silent humility
They declare, with angels song
The glory, and the beauty of
This everlasting God
Who holds the seas, and tames them too
And even knows, each star by name
And looks at these shells the same,
The tiny, forgotten ones
Not forgotten, by the Maker
But broken, now whole by
His hand, and beauty to
Declare, His glory on the shores of earth
To those, just passing by
That they might see Him,
Through these vessels, rid of themselves
That they might know Him,
Who loves these little ones
These tiny vessels of His glory that
All the earth, may come to know
Him, who is most worthy and
Him who is most High
And glorify Him, the reigning King
Who is so good, and merciful
Even to the smallest ones
Broken, and rid of themselves
Now whole in His strength, and too
Now testaments, of His glory
Who sing, of His great Name
Simply, by being His
There, on earth’s shore
They praise Him forevermore
May we learn to do as they
For His glory, for His fame
May we allow ourselves be rid
Of ourselves, to better declare
His goodness, and His mercy to
Those, just passing by
On the shores, of eternity
That they may be with Him forevermore
In that Ocean of His grace
In those depths of His character,
In the waves of His justice
To be His, forevermore
Simply surrendered, as those shells
Rolled upon the waves
Simply His, and His alone
May we praise His name forevermore
When words fall short to utter
Truths, of praise to God in Heaven
Sing but one name, speak with one voice
The name, above all names
The name of Jesus Christ
When world around falls apart
And nothing still remains unshaken
Sing, to heart and soul, to mind and body that
Name, too beautiful, to comprehend
That name of Jesus Christ
When pains, so deep
Rend tears in heart, beyond repair
And words fall short to utter grief
Speak, and sing that name, that perfect name
Of the Savior Jesus Christ
For He, in Himself, is enough to cover us
He is enough, to heal our broken hearts, and too
Utter that which we cannot, and create in us
A heart of praise and adoration, not possible without Him
To make our brokenness, into beauty
To turn our mourning, into joy
To take our sins, our failures, our shame
And make us new beneath His holy blood
For He, is enough
He is sufficient to cover us, to carry us
He is enough to keep us His
Enough to see us home to Him
Not by our merit, or our own worth, but by
His own strength and power and
By His great, unending mercy
By His love, and grace are we
Free to be His own!
So praise that name, above all names
Glorify, that God in Heaven who
Came and gave, Himself for us
Who is, more than enough
All we could ever hope for,
More than we could ever dream
Endless, and boundless as the sea
Whose greatness goes beyond the skies
Praise Him, and call upon that name
That name, above all names
The name, of the only Begotten Son
Of our Healer, our Savior, our Redeemer, our King
The name of Jesus Christ alone
Praise Him forevermore
For He is enough
Cling to that name alone!
Jesus, Jesus
Father we look to You.
You are our only One
The only One we could ever need
Jesus, Jesus
Oh how we need You
How we need You again
For You are our only One, our only Hope
Jesus, we need You again!
Speak to us again we pray
We have no good, apart from You
Jesus, fill us with Your love
Oh how we need You again!
Only You are faithful and
Only You are good
Jesus, we look to You
How we need You again!
Generation after generation
Hour, after hour
Days go by and no one cares
No one bleeds, or weeps, or cares to see
The world which lay around them
Too happy, to go on
In little world, they’ve always known
Too content to make a change to anything
That requires more from them than
A nod or simple like
How far have we fallen, these
Who once proclaimed, the world to be
As it was, and walked in power
Till world itself was changed and
Made new by the One within them
Too long have we been content without
The living, breathing God in us
Too long have we left Him under steeple and
Preferred He stay that way
Lest we be uncomfortable, or even
Shaken from our little worlds and
Made awake to see
This world we have made
By our indifference, by our uncaring and
By our refusal to make a change
In our own hearts, and minds
By our refusing to submit to Him
To Him who hung the stars, have we
Found out nation, once great, in shambles
Our youth dying without cause
Our children murdered, with our approval and
The homeless starving to be seen, and heard
Yet ignored as we pass them by
Too busy, too busy to care
Or do something to save them
Too happy, in our ignorance
Too calm in our willingness
To disbelieve anything
We do not like or need
Too tired, to wake up and see
This world that we have made
But most of all, I think we have
Neglected, this Holy Savior
This One who brought us back to life and
Ransomed us, back to Him and
Made us born anew, in His blood
That made us His own
We have, forgotten Him
Quite happily, that we could sleep
However we wished, so carelessly
In whatever world we choose to believe
That we may not hear His voice
That we could go on sleeping
Forever deaf, to the cries of those
In need, and dying for a Savior
Forever content, in our little pews
Bored by religious speeches, and happy tunes
No longer awed by the Savior King
No longer broken at His feet
No longer caring, to see His face
No longer calling, on His name
How long, how long dear church
Will you go on this way?
The nation, is falling
Your children, are dying
Just for a night of happiness
Away from griefs so easily brought
By world, they don’t know how to forget
By sins they know not how to escape
When you, oh church do know
What can save these desperate ones
You’ve spoken it from the beginning
No matter how you drone now, you once knew
The fire of the Holy Spirit who
Has left you, by your choosing
To find those that want Him there
Yet you sit unmoved
You do not care
How long, will you slumber?
I say to you, no more today
No more tomorrow if you go on
A day is coming, surely, it is here
When happy speeches and silent songs will be
No more to keep you afloat
We are in a day and age when
The mundane, the traditional
Is no longer enough
Religion, speeches
Songs of smiles and of lies no more
Can keep you from this fall
You must, rise up
And be as you were called to be
Not content, in lack of Him
Not filled, by worldly pleasures and
Not happily desolate of life and truth
The day has come to need Him again
You must find Him, as your greatest need
And seek Him, as your every breath
Oh church, wake up!
You cannot afford to sleep any longer!
Your King is waiting, your King is asking
For you to give up, your fleshy pursuits
To give up, your other lovers and
Return to Him once more
No other thing, will see you saved
No other One but Him
The time of ignorance, of uncaring
The time of slumber, it is done
Wake and see your Glorious King and
Repent to Him instead
Run to Him, who alone can save
And be as you, dear church, were made to be
The bride of Christ Himself
No longer a pawn of world or men
No longer born of money or of pride
But His. But His alone.
Dear church, the time has come
Return to Him again
Come back to Him, your first Love
There is no time to waste
Heaven can wait no longer
He is calling, He is asking
For His bride to return to Him
Will you sit, unmoved once more
Or come to Him instead?
The choice is yours, but know I beg
The Savior calls to you
Do not keep Him waiting, any longer
Do not break His heart, any more
The time is now, return to Him
There is no other way
No other, but this Jesus
None but Jesus Christ alone
We need Him again~
